The Kitchen
Our Story
Jake's Seafoods opened in 1949 as a true family affair. Founded by John Jacobson and his brothers — Marty, Donald, Bob, and Bill — all of whom worked as commercial fishermen harvesting clams and lobsters from Hull's own waters. Their sister Betty Oliver served as the first cook, and the whole family kept the kitchen running.
In 1984, the O'Brien family purchased the business, and Jim O'Brien — a UMass Amherst Hotel and Restaurant Management graduate — took over daily operations the following summer. Under his stewardship, Jake's added an outdoor deck overlooking the bay in 2009 and expanded the lounge and waiting area in 2010.
Today, more than 75 years on, Jake's remains family-owned and remains the go-to seafood destination on the South Shore — from Hull to Quincy to the Cape, people know the name.
